DR. JENNIFER ACEVEDO – CHIROPRACTOR
Dr. Jennifer Acevedo was born and raised in Minnesota. She was active in gymnastics, track and anything that could be done outdoors. After graduating from high school, she attended Aurora University where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Dr. Acevedo worked for the next 10 years in the social service industry as a case manager and later as a program director.
In 2011, Dr. Acevedo’s husband was transferred to Georgia with the United States Air Force. He is currently stationed at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, GA. This is where Dr. Acevedo would realize her passion for Chiropractic. Her youngest son, who was a little over a year old began suffering from severe respiratory stress and seasonal allergies which manifested in a total body, itchy rash, congestion, croupy cough, several bought of pneumonia and frequent trips to the pediatrician. After multiple rounds of antibiotics and almost a year with no resolve, Dr. Acevedo sought the help of a Chiropractor. The care plan included biweekly adjustments and a radical diet change. Within six weeks of being under care, her son was back to his crazy and fun loving self. This began Dr. Acevedo’s journey into chiropractic.
In December of 2016, Dr. Acevedo graduated with a Doctorate in Chiropractic from Life University in Marietta, GA. While attending Life University, she attended many technique and nutrition seminars, which helped to focus her attention on total pediatric and family care. Dr. Acevedo believes it is vital to have complete balance in life to achieve optimal health and wellness. She believes this can be achieved through regular chiropractic adjustments combined with proper nutrition, daily exercise and balance within a person’s spiritual, emotional and mental states.
Dr. Acevedo is the mother of two wildly, curious boys who love outdoor adventure, baseball, basketball and football. Her husband is a civil engineer with the United States Air Force and can be found most nights of the week and weekends coaching youth sports. In her spare time, Dr. Acevedo can be found enjoying time outdoors with her family, gardening or cheering on her boys in support of their love for the game.
Dr. Marisa Mikals is a 2001 Life University graduate. She has known she wanted to be a doctor since the age of four. Dr. Mikals began seeing a chiropractor in seventh grade due to hip pain from dancing numerous hours a week.
She attended high school at Douglas Anderson Performing Arts for dance and continued to receive chiropractic care to keep her body in the proper alignment for maximum performance. Dr. Mikals chose chiropractic as her profession so she could help others as she had been helped.
While attending Life University, Dr. Mikals was one of only two students in her quarter chosen to serve on the Academic Review Committee. Dr. Mikals also spent time attending after school adjusting clubs to broaden her scope of techniques.
Through her continuing education studies, Dr. Mikals discovered a deep passion for holistic healing and has become a certified Bio Energetic Doctor. She is certified in several modalities which allow her to meet her patient’s health concerns with natural solutions including: the Body Restoration Technique, Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique (NAET), and Applied Kinesiology.
Immediately following her graduation, Dr. Mikals had the good fortune to work in several chiropractic offices over the years. She found there were certain aspects she loved about each practice, and aspects that she felt were missing.
It was through these experiences her vision for Vibrant Health Center was born. A relaxing, non-clinical setting where patients can come to renew their health and spirit.
Dr. Mikals understands true holistic health care means addressing the whole body—inside and out. Chiropractic, massage, natural skin care, physical therapy modalities, nutritional supplementation, health coaching, acupressure/puncture, laser body contouring, and detoxing are some of the services offered at Vibrant Health Center at this time.
Matt is a long-distance hiking, rock climbing Florida boy who finally got out of Florida. To say that nature and natural medicine are integral parts of Matt’s life would be an understatement. You see Matt is is more than a natural medicine provider, he eats, sleep and breathes nature. His outdoor activities include more than 30 years of backpacking and 20 years of rock climbing. In 2001 Matt completed a 2,168.1 mile Thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. In total, he has logged more than 5,000 miles in the backcountry.
After returning from his thru-hike, Matt return to school and became a paramedic. Matt spent 10 years in the EMS field achieving the rank of Lt/Paramedic/FTO with Lake-Sumter EMS. His duties included the obvious, providing emergency care to the residents of central Florida, as well as, teaching CEU courses, AHA classes (BLS, ACLS, PALS), training and evaluating EMTs and Paramedics. Late in that career Matt felt a calling. He was tired of seeing patients who were not getting the answers and care that they deserved. He knew, from personal experience, that there was a better way to handle chronic health concerns. That’s when he decided to pursue his education in Oriental Medicine.
Matt attended Florida College of Integrative Medicine, the oldest oriental medicine school in the southeast, in Orlando, Florida. After completing a four-year medicine program in three years and graduating in January of 2012, Matt became licensed in Florida as an Acupuncture Physician. Matt spent the next three and a half years treating patients in the central Florida area. His patient population ranged from as young as 5 to adults as old as 95, and included professional soccer players from the Orlando City Lions.
In late 2015 Matt became licensed in Georgia, received his national board certification as a diplomate in acupuncture, from NCCAOM, and moved to the Atlanta area for a clinical nutrition and functional medicine training program in Marietta, GA. Matt spent the next year deeply immersed in functional medicine and clinical nutrition. Late in 2016, and feeling the desire to return to his Chinese medicine roots, Matt resigned from the Marietta clinic to pursue his Chinese medicine practice.
Matt now focuses on integrating Chinese medicine with functional medicine to provide the highest level of care for his patients. He believes that the doctor is a guide, and in order for a patient to achieve the level of wellness that they deserve, the patient must take ownership in the healthcare. Matt takes every opportunity to counsel and educate his patients on better health choices.
Matt lives in Acworth, GA with his wife Anja, son River, and daughter Rain. He is an avid backpacker, rock climber, and is a member of the route-setting team at Escalade Rock Climbing Gym in Kennesaw, GA. He enjoys teaching his children about nature so that they can become it’s stewards in the future.
