What is Acupuncture?
Developed in Eastern Asia over thousands of years, acupuncture is a drug-free, holistic approach to wellbeing.
The practice of acupuncture stems from the principle that our health depends on the balanced functioning of energy in the body. This energy, or Qi, moves through the body via meridians. Traditional Chinese medicine accounts for over 2,000 acupressure points on the human body all of which are connected by 20 or so energetic pathways, the meridians. These channels of energy move Qi through the body, from the surface to internal organs. Illness, stress, and other forms of ailment or malaise can cause blockages in the body, which prevents the harmonious movement of energy.
For many people, the sensations associated with the needle insertion include a slight tingling or sensation of pressure. Our needles are solid and as thin as a strand of human hair; the process of acupuncture treatment is usually painless as the needles are thinner and inserted to more shallow levels than hypodermic needles. Patients are allowed to relax as the needles remain in place between 20 and 60 minutes. For acute cases, patients typically respond within a few sessions. Chronic issues may require long-term treatment.
Our acupuncture clinic in the Vibrant Health Center is designed to soothe and relax, aiding patients in recuperating during the acupuncture session.
